Toronto – Egypt has been making claims of apocalypse to its water security due to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) whose construction is near completion.

Egypt since 2011 not only successfully spread lies after lies, it also managed to block Ethiopia from getting Loan for building the GERD from international financial institutions such as IMF, World Bank, and other lending institutions using its PAID connections, it tirelessly lobbied the governments of US, UK, & the EU to to help them kill the project from the the construction began.
But to the surprise of all involved, the people of Ethiopia dug deep into their own pockets to build the DAM from beginning to end, to the point of its successful power generation.
Egypt & Sudan’s initial claim for 14 years was the Dam will cut Nile water flow…
“Egypt and Sudan have each brought the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) multiple times. In 2020, Egypt first brought the issue to the UNSC, and in the second half of 2021, Egypt did so again after Ethiopia unilaterally proceeded with the second filling of the dam. Sudan also expressed its concerns to the UNSC at the same time, accusing Ethiopia of unilateral actions and “bad intentions,” according to the BBC. Therefore, it appears that both Egypt and Sudan have each accused Ethiopia to the UNSC at least twice, with Egypt potentially doing so more than once, depending on the frequency of UNSC discussions. ”
Their propaganda continued from 2011 to 2025 for almost 14 years, but during the entire 14 years there was no water shortage reported both in Egypt or Sudan. Nile water was flowing as it always did year after year, and the filling of the Dam was conducted during the rainy-seasons of July & August.
However, on April 11, 2025, ‘EGYPT INDEPENDENT’ published an article with the title :
“Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam not working, forcing billions of Nile water release towards Egypt: Expert”
Egyptian water resources expert Abbas Sharaqi stated that the coming period will witness the flow of enormous quantities of water to both Sudan and Egypt due to Ethiopia opening the gates of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) before the rainy season.
Sharaqi, Professor of Geology and Water Resources at Cairo University, explained that the shutdown of the GERD’s turbines and the failure to commence the dam’s operation as planned will force Ethiopia to discharge approximately 20 billion cubic meters of the dam’s water in preparation for receiving rainwater in the new season.
Sharaqi added, “We are less than two months away from the start of the rainy season in June. Ethiopia will be forced to discharge about 20 billion cubic meters before next July.”
He stressed that this water discharge “must be gradual, starting now, so as not to harm Sudan, which, like Egypt, is preparing to receive this water to mitigate the danger of a sudden, unagreed-upon release.”
