Toronto – Ethiopian Airlines this week announced that it is launching a flight to Dhaka, Bangladesh. The airline will have six weekly flights starting November 1, 2024. The flight connects Bangladesh to Africa and beyond.
It will be deploying Boeing B787 Dreamliner for the flight.
“This new route will further strengthen Ethiopian’s presence in South Asia, providing convenient connections between Bangladesh and key destinations across Africa and beyond. The new flights are scheduled for convenient departures from Addis Ababa and arrivals in Dhaka, facilitating smooth connections and a seamless travel experience,” the airline said in a new update it published this week.
Why is Ethiopian Airlines launching a new flight to Dhaka? Mesfin Tassew, CEO, seems to see a socioeconomic significance to it.
He is cited as saying ““Bangladesh is a dynamic and growing market, and we are confident that our modern fleet and exceptional service will meet the needs of travelers between our two regions.”
Ethiopian Airlines has now over 140 global destinations and has plans to further expand destinations in Asia. Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Karachi are some of the destinations in South East Asia.
Recently, Ethiopian Airlines embarked on the construction of a $6 billion dollar new mega airport project with a plan to accommodate its growing number of passengers. In 2023, the airlines carried 13.9 million passengers, according to a Reuters report.
