Toronto – Reports from citizen journalists on social media indicate that Dereje Zeleke (PhD) passed away in Addis Ababa on Wednesday.
According to sources, he has been getting medical attention in Addis Ababa for an unspecified health condition.
Funeral is scheduled to take place at Petros Wopaulos Church on Thursday,as indicated on social media posts.
Apart from his service to Ethiopia at Addis Ababa University Law School where he has been teaching for several years, Dereje Zeleke was prominent for expressing his views on the current Ethipoian situation and has appeared on numerous platforms. He was a vocal government critics and detractor of the existing government system in Ethiopia.
Borkena would like to express heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Dereje Zeleke.

Russian priests bless fire trucks as huge blaze continues after Ukraine attack(BBC,Robert Plummer ,21/08/2024 )
Russian Orthodox priests have visited the scene of a huge fire at a fuel depot, which continues to burn three days after being set alight in a Ukrainian drone attack.
More than 500 firefighters have been tackling the giant blaze at the Proletarsk oil storage facility in the southern Rostov region.
About 20 of 74 storage tanks were on fire, local authorities told the RIA news agency.
On Wednesday, local Orthodox priests said prayers next to the fire engines and brought an icon to the scene in support of firefighters’ efforts.
“The [priests] spoke with the firefighters and blessed all the fire equipment,” the local Volgodonsk eparchy – the Russian Orthodox Church equivalent of a diocese – told Reuters news agency.
They brought with them a large icon of the Unburnt Bush, considered a talisman against fire.
