Toronto – An intense fighting between Fano forces and government forces reported in Debre Tabor, South Gondar area of the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
Ethio News reported , citing residents from the city, that the fighting lasted for hours in the city and its surrounding. It was Fano forces who launched the attack after receiving information that a section of government forces were moving from the city in the direction of Ebnat with the aim to attack Fano forces.
The source added that Fano forces launched the attack from different directions of the city (unspecified). The number of casualties from both sides is unknown at this point. However, Fano forces claim that they have inflicted heavy losses on the defense force.
Last week, a prominent Fano leader – Colonel Tadesse Eshete – was killed in a battle in South Gondar.
Office remained and schools remained closed on Monday as the two forces battled.
Similarly, there was fighting in Finote Selam and Bure, Gojjam. Ethio News reported that this one was fought on Sunday. At least 30 government forces are reportedly killed or wounded.
