Toronto – Canada summoned the Israeli Ambassador to Canada, Iddo Moe, over what it calls “abominable treatment of civilians,” on board the Global Sumud Flotilla.
“Canada unequivocally condemns the abominable treatment of civilians aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, including that which is documented in footage shared by Itamar Ben-Gvir,” Prime Minister Mark Carney wrote on his social media page.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada on Wednesday summoned the Ambassador “to demand assurances regarding the safety and security of Canadians involved,” according to government sources.
Earlier today, the Minister for Global Affairs Canada, Anita Anand, wrote on her X page :
“I have directed my officials to summon the Israeli ambassador regarding the heinous treatment of civilians aboard the flotilla. Civilians must be protected at all times. The video shared by Ben-Gvir is deplorable and documents the mistreatment of civilians. Canada has already imposed sanctions on Ben-Gvir and we will continue to pressure the government of Israel to crack down on those inviting violence.”
Canada firmly stated that human dignity and the protection of civilians “must be upheld everywhere” at all times.
The reaction came after Israeli National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, shared on his social media page a video footage of Gaza activists from different countries detained by Israel.
According to a Canadian news source, 12 of the 430 civilian activists of Palestinian cause are Canadians.

I hope this is not just political theatrics as usual. Once the hubbub dies down Canadian gov will return to its default position of looking the other way as Israeli atrocities return all over again somewhere else.
