(Nairobi, Kenya) — Bank of Abyssinia (BoA) has officially listed on the Main Market of the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX), trading under the ticker symbol BOAX as the country expands its national capital market framework.

Recognized as one of the country’s fastest-growing financial institutions, Bank of Abyssinia operates a network of 929 branches nationwide alongside a workforce of nearly 10,000 employees.

The listing was finalized during a ceremonial bell-ringing event attended by leadership from the ESX, the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA), the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), and Bank of Abyssinia’s board and executive management. In an official statement, the exchange noted that the admission marks a milestone for the bank, reinforcing its commitment to corporate governance, public disclosure, and shareholder accountability.

Dr. Tilahun Esmael Kassahun, Chief Executive Officer of the ESX, stated that Bank of Abyssinia’s decision to list demonstrates growing confidence in Ethiopia’s emerging securities market. He noted that the move reflects a willingness among established commercial institutions to operate under rigorous public reporting standards.

According to exchange officials, admitting major commercial lenders expands the range of regulated assets available to investors while deepening overall market liquidity to mobilize long-term private capital.

Bank of Abyssinia completed all required registration and regulatory compliance procedures established by both the ESX and the ECMA prior to its admission. Trading of the bank’s shares on the exchange floor is now officially underway.
