Toronto – Ashes from an Ethiopian volcanic eruption have reportedly disrupted some flight schedules in India.
Ash from the volcanic eruption location in Etrale, the Denakil Depression of Ethiopia, rose up to 15 kilometers above sea level. It crossed the Red Sea, Yemen and reached Delhi, according to sources.
The ashes reached in the skies of Delhi on Monday and Tuesday.
Indian Aviation Authorities ordered strict cancellation of flights in the direction affected by the volcanic ash. Passengers using Mumbai Airport were advised to check updates about their flights before they head to the airport.
Also, the authority instructed pilots to report unusual smoke or ash smells during flights.
DW reported, on Tuesday, that Air India has cancelled 11 flights on Monday and Tuesday as a safety measure.
On the other hand, Ethiopian Airlines has disclosed that its flight schedules were not impacted by the ashes, as reported by BBC Amharic. However, it has been assessing the situation with Aviation authorities.
The volcano is said to be dormant for 12,000 years.
The volcanic eruption occurred on Sunday around 10 a.m. local time within a range of 10 kilometers from Ertale, a volcanic site, which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ethiopia.
