Press Release
Bahir Dar – April 24, 2026: U.S. Ambassador Ervin J. Massinga visited Bahir Dar this week, where he conducted a series of high-level engagements and site visits focused on commerce, health, humanitarian issues, and education in the Amhara region. The Ambassador met with Amhara Regional President Arega Kebede, Bahir Dar Mayor Goshu Endalamaw, and regional leaders to discuss the current political, security, and economic situation.
“These engagements highlighted our mutual commitment to peace, security, and long-term stability in the region,” said Ambassador Massinga during the visit. Bahir Dar is a key economic hub in the Amhara region, and the visit provided a valuable opportunity to advance dialogue and support ongoing efforts toward peace and stability that will open the doors for greater economic prosperity.
During the visit, the Ambassador met with U.S. government-supported staff and beneficiaries at Felege Hiwot Comprehensive Referral Hospital and visited the Amhara Public Health Institute’s Emergency Operations Center and the Ethiopian Pharmaceuticals Supply Services hub. At Bahir Dar University, he met with university leadership and visited the Ethiopian Institute of Textile and Fashion Technology (EiTEX) to meet the region’s future innovators.
The Ambassador heard local perspectives during a roundtable discussion with the Bahir Dar U.S. Embassy Exchange Alumni Chapter. “We look forward to deepening our collaboration to promote ties on economic development, resilience and expanding opportunities for young people,” he said.
The United States remains committed to supporting efforts that enhance stability and long-term development as the basis for future prosperity for the people of both the United States and Ethiopia.
