Toronto – The Ethiopian government, through Addis Ababa city administration, is undertaking demolition in the Piassa area of Addis Ababa. The development has become a talking point among Ethiopians on social media.
The government’s conception of re-building the city does not seem to give a room – this is something demonstrated over the past few years – for social cohesion and historical sites that need to be preserved. Many sites in the city that should have been preserved had been demolished and the ones in the Piassa area do not seem to be an exception. Clearly, Piassa will not exist as people know it and cherished it.
