(Nairobi, Kenya) — The All Ethiopian Unity Party (AEUP / MEAD) has issued a statement demanding an immediate halt to identity-targeted attacks, mass killings, and ongoing human rights abuses across the country, while urging independent legal accountability for perpetrators.

In an official press statement released on October 22, 2026, the opposition party emphasized that citizens seek an inclusive system rooted in shared citizenship, human dignity, and impartial justice rather than divisive political structures. Highlighting recent reports of civilian casualties, massacres, arbitrary detentions, and property destruction in the Arsi and Wollega zones, as well as other regions, AEUP noted that widespread security failures have plunged communities into grief and apprehension.

AEUP stressed that the fundamental duty and constitutional legitimacy of any government rest on its capacity to safeguard the lives, liberties, and peace of its citizens. The party asserted that state security institutions must function impartially for all Ethiopians rather than serving selective group interests.

To address the security crisis, AEUP called for an immediate cessation of identity-targeted violence, robust protection for peaceful residents, and an independent investigation into alleged atrocities to ensure evidence-based prosecution. Concluding its appeal, the party underscored the urgent need to facilitate the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons to their homes while establishing a durable legal framework founded on equal citizenship and the rule of law.
