Residential Areas Hit by Stray Munitions as Active Combat Continues Across Tigray, Amhara, and Afar Fronts

(NAIROBI, Kenya ) — As the full-scale conflict in northern Ethiopia entered its seventh day, residents across multiple urban centers reported severe civilian casualties resulting from heavy artillery shelling and stray munitions in densely populated residential areas.
Eyewitness accounts from Alamata, Sekota, and Seleln Wuha describe extensive loss of life and destruction of property following intense artillery exchanges between opposing military forces.
Residents reported that stray heavy munitions struck private homes and public marketplaces across several towns. In Seleln Wuha, a direct strike on a residential house resulted in the deaths of six family members. Similarly, eyewitnesses in Sekota confirmed that an artillery shell hit a dwelling, killing a mother and critically injuring her two young children.
In Alamata, local sources indicated that recurring bombardment hitting residential blocks and open market squares caused numerous civilian fatalities throughout the week. Municipal and regional authorities have not issued official statements confirming or denying the reported civilian casualty figures.
Military operations continue actively along three primary fronts in northern Ethiopia. Along the Kobbo–Alamata front, Ethiopian National Defense Force units secured operational control over several strategic urban areas, including Alamata town and Sekota town.
Concurrently, on the Afar front, joint forces comprising the TPLF and the Afar Revolutionary Democratic Unity Front (Ugugumo)—both constituent members of the newly formed Alliance for Survival coalition—captured the towns of Abala and Erebti. Meanwhile, active combat operations and heavy tactical artillery deployments persist across the Wag Hemra sector and surrounding rural territories. Neither the federal government nor the Defense Force command has released comprehensive, unified official updates detailing the overall strategic situation across the active combat zones.
