Military Reports Over 400 Rebel Casualties and Seizure of Heavy Armaments Following Coordinated Counter-Attack in Northeastern Front

(Nairobi, Kenya) — The Ethiopian National Defense Force announced that its units successfully thwarted a major military offensive launched by TPLF armed forces within the Northeastern Command’s operational jurisdiction. Military authorities reported that a coordinated counter-attack resulted in 436 rebel fighters killed, 220 wounded, and 44 captured.
Brigadier General Adisu Bedru, a corps commander in the Northeastern Command, stated that TPLF fighters regrouped their scattered forces following initial military movements toward the command’s sector before launching a full-scale offensive.
According to Brigadier General Adisu, the armed group fully deployed four designated army units—identified as the 31st, 26th, 15th, and 44th armies—in an attempt to break through federal positions. Defense units mounted a coordinated defensive maneuver followed by targeted counter-attack measures, completely neutralizing the advance.
In addition to personnel losses, federal forces seized substantial quantities of weapons, heavy ordnance, and tactical communications equipment. Confiscated armaments included four DShK heavy machine guns, 18 light machine guns, six sniper rifles, 83 Kalashnikov assault rifles, three RPGs, 15 ICOM handheld radios, and two Type-77 field radios. Defense officials added that troops recovered over 5,000 rounds of machine gun ammunition, 1,590 DShK rounds, and various firearm accessories from the field.
Addressing the broader context of the conflict, the TPLF accused the federal government of carrying out attacks targeting innocent citizens. TPLF leadership previously announced that full-scale war had begun across the northern operational area.
While the federal government has not officially confirmed the start of a full-scale war, federal forces continue executing operations against TPLF fighters deployed across neighboring border areas of the Amhara and Afar regions.
