(Nairobi, Kenya) — Aksum University announced that it has finalized preparations to welcome back students after completing the transition of ex-combatants residing on its main campus under the national Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) program.

In an official submission delivered to the Ministry of Education, university management confirmed that the relocation of demobilized individuals from the main campus will conclude fully before student arrivals, fulfilling federal requirements for a secure learning environment.

The relocation follows explicit directives from federal authorities demanding that higher education grounds remain completely free of armed movements or demobilization activities to ensure academic continuity.

To execute the directive smoothly, university leadership formed a joint coordination task force working alongside regional, zonal, and municipal administrative bodies. Officials stated that former combatants and institutional stakeholders accepted the transition request cooperatively, agreeing to vacate university facilities ahead of student assignments.

University leadership noted that its three secondary campuses located outside the main grounds have maintained normal operations without similar spatial or security challenges.

With main campus facilities cleared and restored, Aksum University formally requested that the Ministry of Education reconsider earlier plans to reassign its students to alternative public universities.

University administrators emphasized that allowing returning and newly admitted students to pursue their studies at Aksum University will prevent social and economic disruption for faculty, staff, and surrounding communities. The administration reaffirmed its readiness to resume teaching, research, and community outreach programs, calling on federal officials to issue an immediate operational decision.
