Toronto – “It is the right time to secede Tigray,” Major General Kinfe Dagnaw said in an interview with Tigray based Television, Brakhe show.
He was commenting on the current situation in the region.
Before the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) lost dominance over federal government power, Gen. Kinfe was in charge of METEC, a state-owned conglomerate, that was taking part in the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
He was allegedly involved in grand corruption, captured and brought to Addis Ababa handcuffed in a defense helicopter a little before the outbreak of the war between the TPLF and the federal government in November 2020.
He was arrested for about four years and later released as part of the political process in connection with ending the war in the Tigray region.
General Kinfe Dagnaw went to Tigray after he was realized – even more radicalized. He has been advocating for the secession of Tigray for several years now.
Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), the party that ruled Ethiopia for over 27 years with an iron fist, recently took over government structure by forces in Tigray after removing the General Tadesse Worede led Interim Administration claiming the extension of the latter’s term in office violates the Pretoria agreement which ended the war in the region in November 2022.
Currently, the TPLF has formed a political and military alliance with the Eritrean government with whom it has over three decades of enmity. There was even a perception that much of the challenges Eritrea has to go through was related to – directly or indirectly – TPLF government action against the country.
General Kinfe Dagnaw does seem to see that potential political and military challenges it used to face in the region are no longer there. However, the idea of secession, as things stand now, does not seem to have much currency in Tigray given the rising anti-TPLF sentiment. Even the Eritrean President himself was at point claiming that he was telling TPLF leaders that secession from Ethiopia is irrational and even opposed the ethnic based federalism which TPLF entrenched in the country with brute force.
Notable ethnic Tigray politicians are yet to react to General Kinfe Dagnaw’s agitation of Tigray secession.

The call to secede shouldn’t come as a surprise by this felon who let crooks dip their sticky fingers in the nation’s coffers and steal billions in US dollars of the poor citizens’ money. All these so-called ‘Liberation Fronts’ be it TPLF, OLF, ONLF, SPLF and the likes were founded with the ultimate goal of seceding from the country. There unique characteristics of the founding individuals of these fronts. First, they were all communists. Second, they were all bigots and had this deep seated hatred to other ethnic groups other than others. They were gifted connivers who knew how to feed on the raw emotion of the gullible youth. Those were the founders and those are their successors today. These destructive characters have now spread into the Amhara region also. That is how infectious and enduring is that demonic Marxism. All these vagabonds are not hiding the utter contempt they have for their own fellow citizens. For them, the average is clueless, know-nothing dumb bell. They tell us that their first task is to ‘raise the conscience level’ of the citizens. That is why we see them making fools of themselves with their blabber mouths these days in towns and villages over there and on several websites here in our Diaspora.
Tigray is one of the oldest nations with its own unique culture and identity in the world . In the beginning the mission of the TPLF was to liberate Tigray and restore its independence and sovereignty. Howeve, it tool the wrong decision and step to take control of the whole Ethiopia. Tigray has built Ethiopia and it is now time to declare formal independence and rebuild itself. Independent Tigray will remain committed to Oromia which is its gift to the Oromo people.

I fully share Ittu’s views. It is a shame to have a leading member of our national defence institution with such anti-Ethiopian views. It is also astonishing to see somewhat educated TPLF leaders like him make such advocacy after seeing:
(1) Independent Eritrea is not a Singapore after over 40 years of independence,
(2) the current constitution has enabled Tigray and Oromia to be ruled by their own kith and kin, but the governace in both cases has been corupt, inefficient, non-transparent and disgraceful on all counts,
(iii) the TPLF leaders, icluding himself, having fabricated the current wretched constitution that facilitates dictatorship, theft, and corruption at all levels, recommend secession when the dictators come from another ethnic group.
TPLF and OLF “ freedom” leaders have had the golden opportunity to enact a democratic constititution for all Ethiopians instead of authoring a falsely federal and undemocratic proclamation to divide and rule, as orginally proposed by Premier Crispi and Fascist Italy, and for enriching a small ethnic ruling clique masquerading as freedom leaders of Tigray and Oromia.
Clearly, Meles, Leencho and their surrogates have been short-sighted and selfish pople, far below the calibere of the American Founding Fathers whose constitution is still alive and well today after 250 years. What our current constitution has done so far is to serve as a tool to impoverish, bleed and rob the country by the ruling groups, and lay down the foundations for continued poverty, chaos and civil war even in those very regions Meles and Leenco have claimed to lead to freedom. Their true excuse as leaders of freedom fighters was, therefore, to create an environment of exploitation and robbery for self-enrichment.
OLF and TPLF leaders have come up, in Article 47 of their constitution, with 9 kililis ruled by at most only 9 tribes, putting the remaining 74 out of the 83 under the 9 tribes of the 9 kilils and then shamefully claiming that Ethiopia is a nation of sovereign nations and nationalities, as deceitfully claimed in Article 8 of the Constitution.
In addition, there is the House of the Federation wherein almost illiterate Kilil Presidents and their assistants, all apppointed directly or indirectly through the Executie branch of the central government, have the constitutional authority, according to Article 62 of the Constitution, to order the Prime Minister to invade Kilils, dictate to parliament on civil code-related issues, and interpret the Constitution. This supreme constitutional authority of local government appointees over the central government was an intentional violation of federalism to strengthen the limitless powers of the Prime Minister.
In short, the mess created by TPLF and OLF leaders over the last 33 years has led to the dismemberment of Eritrea, to the destruction of Tigray, the decimation of Oromia and the debilitating civil wars, poverty, starvation and misery all over the country today. TPLF has dismembered Ethiopia, and it is also currently working hard to further destroy Ethiopia, and possibly further plunder whatever little is available in Tigray after putting it up, if it can, as “independent”. Fortunately, the people of Tigray will not allow TPLF to always have its destructive ways.

It is Tigray that brings war and misery to Ethiopia. We were at war and destructions for 100s of years because of Tigray. Ethiopia will be better off if Tigray secede. So let us support Tigray’s independence.
