Fano forces reportedly took control of Nifase Mewucha, Gondar

Toronto – The Fano forces on Wednesday announced that they took control of Nefase Wuchia town in South Gondar.

It represents a significant development as the city is an important location on the Woldia – Bahir Dar road.  The mayor of the town, Takele, is captured.  Fano forces have released a video footage showing the mayor under their control.

Amhara Fano National Front (AFNF) said the 303rd, 16th, and 106th corps of the Menelik Command in coordination with the mobile force of Ras -Gaynt launched the operation on Wednesday.

At the time of this writing, the town is under the control of Fano forces. However, they have a habit of, as demonstrated over the past two weeks, not holding on to the cities they control. They usually withdraw a few days later.

Another pattern that has been observed in the past few years is that the Ethiopian government launches aerial drone strikes and artillery shillings  whenever Fano forces make  military gains to control towns.

“Abiy Ahmed’s chair guardian is beaten very well,”  Abebe Fantaw, one of the key leaders of AFNM, wrote on his social media on Wednesday.

Menelik Command deputy commander Wondimu Maru was leading the operation, according to the Fano forces report.

They claimed to have killed “many” without specifying the number.

154 government forces – from defense force, militia and anti-riot are reportedly captured. They also reported to have captured several bren machine gun and hundreds of AK 47,

The Ethiopian Defense Force has not remarked on Fano’s latest claim

  1. There we go with another success story that seems designed to counter another success story by the other side. So the cyclical game goes on. I have my own version. My Itu clan army just overran and captured the towns of Mulu, Mieso, Asabot, Kora and Bordode(Arba) including the entire east side of the River Awash. Wait a minute! I almost forgot to tell you that Chiro(Asbe), Hirna, Baddesa and Galamso are also in the bag. It is reported that my Itu clan has captured 55 SU-35 fighter jets, 365 T-72 tanks, 650 armored vehicles, 1,250 Turkish made drones and 624,000 soldiers. Abiy just traveled to Russia after this disastrous loss seeking political asylum. Then I asked my Itu clan why they did this trying to find out their objectives. Their response was unanimous with ‘We don’t know!’. Why? We don’t know!! Why? We don’t know!! Why? We don’t know!!! I gave up!!!

  2. On a serious note, both sides of the current armed conflicts should know that parading POW’s in this manner in public is humiliating and against all international conventions. The regime should know that. The rebels should know that.
