Residents say over 100 killed in the armed conflict in Gambella city and other areas of the region this week

Borkena
Toronto – Security crisis resurged in the Gambella region of Ethiopia to the point that the regional government was seemingly unable to handle it.
The regional government expressed condolence over people killed in the region without disclosing the figure. Residents estimate the deaths from the latest conflict in the region to be over 100.
“Evil forces have attempted to lead the region to total mayhem by killing people in different areas, attacking vehicles, targeting security and government officials,” the regional government said in a statement it shared on social media.
The government announced that some districts were also experiencing security problems and there were reported killings.
Alemitu Umod, president of the region, later announced that the Defense Force and Federal Police were deployed in the region starting on Wednesday.
Deployed security forces have arrested “suspects” but again the regional government has not specified the number yet.
Security forces were stopping vehicles randomly and searching. The regional government called on residents to cooperate white introducing a range of measures including curfew and restriction of vehicle mobility.
Vehicles without plate numbers were targeted.
The crisis started to worsen after Umod Ujulu, Gambella City Police Commander, was killed on Tuesday this week.
Then the conflict was apparently manifesting ethnic violence character between the two major ethnic groups in the region Anuak and Nuer.
The regional government has released a statement on Thursday calling on residents to cooperate with government forces who are working to restore order in the city and nearby areas.
There is no organized entity that took responsibility for the latest attacks in the region so far.
The regional government later made claims that the suspects in the killing of the police commander was a member of the police force but he is still at large, at the time of this writing.
There has been a recurring security crisis in the region that manifests at times as a violence between Nuer and Anuak ethnic groups and at other times in the form of cross border armed robbers.
Despite Window dressing policy measures under the cover “medemer” – which has been hyped and about which Prime Minister Abity wrote a book, it appears the case that the entrenched ethnic politics continue to be a national security threat to the country.
His government does not have effective control in Amhara, Oromia and Tigray regions – among others. His control in the center appears firm but it has not seen a serious challenge so far. There are few opposition parties that push for policy change but they are denied to organize a public meeting or a peaceful political protest.
Meanwhile, there have been allegations that Egypt has been actively exploiting ethnic tensions and violence as a strategy to destabilize the country.

This is journalism doing its job at best. The editors did not pick and choose or discriminate in reporting sad incidences like this. They did not say ‘Why should I care? They are not Amharas like me. They are not Oromos like me. They are not Tigres like me’ and so on. But look at the other websites and you will not find this story reported. They are busy spreading poison to pitch the two groups of people who founded the modern day Ethiopia, Oromos and Amharas, against each other in an all-out bloody conflict. They are saturating the pages of their websites with Oromummaa this, Neftegna and Woyane to demonize and belittle other groups of people. In their twisted mind, one’s human life is much of a lesser value than theirs. Such diabolical reporting protocol is the one that they found lucrative with blood money flowing in.
Hats off to you dear editors. Keep up the good work.
