Toronto – Fano forces continue to report intense battle against government forces in the Amhara region. Gojjam and Gondar areas have particularly seen multiples of operations including ambush attacks.

Ethiopian Media Service (EMS) cited its sources that the Amhara Fano National Force in North Amhara region under Dejazamch Belay Zeleke command launched an ambush attack on a military convoy.

The convoy was travelling between Soroka and Abrahagira when the Fano forces in the area suddenly launched an ambush attack. They claim to have killed 103 government forces and wounded 50 others.

In Gojjam, three major operations were reported on Thursday. Durbete, Amanuel and Dembecha areas have seen intense battle and ambush attacks out of which Fano claimed to have significant military gains.

The source spoke to Marshet Tsehayu, head of Amahra Fano in Gojjam public relation head, regarding the operations.

He stated that the Abe Gubegna bridge of Amhara Fano in the area entered Durbette town as early as 5 a.m. and opened an offensive on government forces positions. He claimed 45 government forces were killed and hundreds of firearms seized. A new video footage has been circulating purportedly showing government captured government forces from the area – but their number seems unclear.

In Dembecha, also in Gojjam, Yoftahe Nigussie division of fano launched offensive besieging government positions. The battle reportedly lasted from 5 a.m. to midday, the spokesperson told EMS.

“A high number of defense forces were annihilated and  16 captured. Thousands of ammunition and hundreds of firearms seized,” Marshet told the source.

In Amanuel area, there was an ambush attack by the Belay Zeleke division of Fano on Gojjam. Again, the spokesperson claimed “high number of casualty,” on the part of the government forces. Over 100 firearms reportedly seized.

Asked if there was any causality on the part of Fano forces, Marshet responded “there was no causality on our part.”

The Ethiopian Defense Force has not remarked on the claims of Fano forces as it relates to battle outcomes in Gojjam and Gondar on Thursday this week. The Ethiopian government has been reporting that it is now in control of much of the Amhara region and government structures are functioning. However, that does not seem to be the case in view of recent extensive Fano offensive in many areas from which government forces reported suffered high number of casualties.
