Toronto – In what appears to be a clear manifestation of the failure of what was meant to be the last largest military operation against the Fano force, reports are emerging that over 280 government forces have been killed over the past three days.
The government operation, which it called “operation tide,” was planned to end by July 7 and focused in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. The new claim that Fanos is making is outside of the Amhara region.
According to a report by Ethio News, one of the local news outlets with access to information relating to Fano movement, on Friday reported Fano forces operating in Wollega, Oromia region of Ethiopia, were engaged in intensive battle against government forces over the past three days.
The Wollega Command of Fano is cited as saying that it has been engaging government forces in five fronts in Kiremu district of Wollega over the past three days. The district has been making headlines over the past five or six years in connection with the massacre of ethnic Amhara farming communities – an incident the government had been linking to Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) but the militant group denies.
The Fano forces say they have killed 280 government soldiers and captured 25 including two military commanders with major army rank. They also claim to have seized 290 AK47 , 1 Dshk and 4 Bren machine guns.
The Fano force, however, did not disclose the number of casualties on their side. The Ethiopian Defense Force has shared several updates on its social media page over the past few days but there was no reference to the Wollega Fano Command (Bizamo) operation. The Ethiopian government ministry of communication services has not remarked about it either.
In a related development, Fano forces operating in the Amhara region are also making claims of significant military gains over government forces. Battles have been reported in Gojjam, Gondar, Shewa and Wollo over the past five days.
According to sources, Fano forces launched a counter offensive on 11 fronts in an operation they named ” Gedebye memorial.” The operation was also planned to retaliate for the massacre of 11 innocent civilians by Government forces in Gedebye (read detail here). The Fano forces claim they have killed 91 government soldiers and 11 ruling prosperity party officials. Again, the Ethiopian government has not remarked about it.

Fano forces in Wollega, Oromia region where that ganja toting Rastaman has been telling us it has been under his full control since 2018? Is the same Wollega being mentioned here or is it a different Wollega? If it is the same Wollega we are talking about here, then that means Fano has finished liberating it namesake territory and the entire Amhara region is under its full control. Then we don’t wanna hear complaints about Abiy killing Amharas in Amhara region. That is very simple inference that can be drawn from this claim.
