Toronto – Fano forces on Sunday made claims that they shot down a military helicopter in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
The regional state on Monday released a different narrative painting an image that it was rather a technical issue.
A verified information addressing what really happened and how it happened seems to be still unavailable. However, a circumstantial evidences are emerging.
Ethio News says it has confirmed that Bezuayehu Berhanu, a media professional working for state media, (some news sources describe him as a camera man) is dead from the accident. Another journalist (female) who is not identified by name is reportedly injured and is at the Military hospital in Addis Ababa.
Let. General Berhanu Bekele, commander of forces in the Gondar area, and Agengehu Teshager, Speaker of the House of Federation, who were on board of the helicopter are said to have sustained injury. According to sources, they are currently in hospital in Addis Ababa. It appears that the nature of the injury is non-life threatening.
If the report is true, the claim from Amhara region communication bureau that the helicopter was experiencing technical problem makes little or no sense.
