Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – A helicopter stationed at Gorgora Resort in South Gondar, Amhara Region, experienced a “technical problem” on Sunday, June 15, according to the Amhara Regional State Government Communication Bureau. No serious injuries have been reported.
On Sunday, Borkena reported, citing local sources, claims from Fano forces operating in the Gorgora area of the central Gonder zone that they shot down a military helicopter around 6:45 local time.
The Amhara regional state is making counter claims that the incident occurred when “one of the helicopter’s wings collided with a tree.” While the full extent of the damage to the aircraft remains unclear, officials confirmed that there were “no human casualties” as a result of the incident.
The story is not yet independently verified. However, even by the account of the regional state, the incident rather sounds like a minor collision rather than a “technical problem.
It is confirmed that senior federal government officials were reportedly on board the helicopter. They had traveled to Gondar to attend a program organized by the University of Gondar. Among them were Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Taye Atske Selassie, Amhara Regional State President Arega Kebede, and Speaker of the House of Federation Agegnehu Teshager.
On Monday, the region’s government communication shared pictures of the above government officials visiting sites in the regional capital Bahir Dar.
Further details regarding the incident, including the specific level of damage to the helicopter, have not yet been disclosed.

Who do you believe now? The rebels in Amhara region claim they have downed a military copter using RPG and killing all those onboard that included Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Taye Atske Selassie, Amhara Regional State President Arega Kebede, and Speaker of the House of Federation Agegnehu Teshager. Mind you all these are reported to be all Amharas. They must have been infected with that ‘Ummaa’ thing and therefore Amhara-ummaa. The other side is saying not so fast. It claims a civilian copter had some sort of mechanical problems but the pilots were able to land it safely with no casualties. So the liars contest on the media continues.
