Toronto – Fano Forces on Monday reportedly attacked a military camp In Gojjam, Amhara region of Ethiopia.

Ethio News, a local news provider, reported that it received the report from Amhara Fano National Force (AFNF) division in Gojjam. The camp was in the Danglela area.

The Fano forces say several militia and anti-riot forces were killed and 39 firearms were seized from the operation.

Another operation was launched in Finote Selam, also in Gojjam, where the government forces reportedly suffered losses and retreated.

The source also reported that there has been an ongoing battle in the central Gondar zone over the past few days. Government forces have deployed heavy weaponry to the area. However, the casualties from this battle are unspecified.

In Wollo, the Fano forces have reportedly taken control of Geregera town – along the Gashena- Debre Tabor road. There is a reported loss of the part of government forces, But again the number has been unspecified.

Notably, the Fano forces made claims that they shutdown a military helicopter last Sunday near Gorgora but the government dismissed that story as false. It said the helicopter was experiencing a technical problem. On the other hand, confirmed stories are emerging on social media that EBC, state owned media, camera man was killed. Two other journalists sustained non-life threatening injuries. The story surrounding the helicopter crash is still blurry.

On the other hand, the government is making another claim that it has achieved a major military victory against what it calls “extremists” – a reference to Fano forces –  in the Amhara region. Let. Gen. Mohammed Tessema, who is commanding part of the forces operating in the Gojjam area, reportedly said “they are no longer in a position to stand their ground and fight.” There had been similar statements in the past.

Last week, the Defense Chief Berhanu Jula, told parliamentarians that the rebel groups are “90 percent annihilated.” But the claims do not seem to hold water in view of continuous fighting areas of the Amhara region.

  1. Isn’t it Ethiopia’s Enemies [Egypt, EPLF-ELF/(Eritrea), TPLF, etc.] who benefit from it?

1). Gojjam & Gonder [G&G]: From my trips & sojourns in G&G over many years, G&G need food, water, sanitation facilities, transport, etc. The last thing G&G would need is Egypt’s Proxy Hooligans proving to them that guns fire & bullets kill.

2). Fake Amara Fanno [FAF] & Egypt’s ‘Historical Nile Water Share’: Nile is ≈85% Abbay [Gojjam] & ≈5% Baro-Akobo [Gambella]. That’s why Egypt destabilizes Gojjam [from G&G] & Gambella [from Wollega & South Sudan]. Explain this:

i). Would Amaras derail Amaras’ food security [ youtu.be/_ejBczkTHlA?t=300 ]? FAF launched waves of attacks right after Amaras announced success in their food security [irrigated mechanized farms & deploying hundreds of more tractors].

ii). Why would Amaras destroy Amaras’ Agro-Industry, put thousands of Amaras out of jobs and discourage future investors? [ youtu.be/xvv-gCotkVo ]

iii). Would any Amara pit Amaras against Oromos to foment Amara-Oromo clash? Don’t more Amaras 15 million] live in Oromia than in Amara Zone [<10 million]? I have never met any Oromo in Amara Zone during many trips over many years.
