Toronto – Oromo Liberation Army (OLA)  reportedly entered  Bullen town of the Benishangul Gumuz region on Friday where it launched an attack.

According to Tikvah Ethiopia, civilians and government security forces were killed. Residents from the town told the source that the armed group entered the town starting at 6 a.m. and there was heavy gunfire until 10:00 A.M.

While residents have confirmed that civilians are killed the number of the victims is unspecified. At the time the incident was reported to the source, normalcy was not restored to Bulen.

Significant property damage is also reported from the attack and the group has also looted prosperities, according to the source.

Bekele Mekuria, head of peace and security in Metekel town,  Awi zone administration, told  the source that he has received information from Bulen town government officials regarding the incident. He is cited as saying that he has “information that Shene [a reference to OLA] entered the town at 6 a.m. and killed government officials, security forces and civilians.”  However, he said that the number of the victims is unspecified.

The armed group has also reportedly looted banks and  abducted one bank staff member. OLA forces withdrew from the town shortly after the attack.

However, other local Ethiopian news sources reported that OLA gunmen were in full control of the town without indicating that they withdrew from the city.

Despite recurring Federal and Oromia regional government claims that the group is weakened due to government military actions, the group has been extensively operating in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. It claimed that it has killed over 500 government forces across the Oromia region in a recent statement it released on social media.

The parts of the Benishangul Gumuz region of Ethiopia that are sharing regional boundaries with the Oromia region of Ethiopia have experienced recurring attacks from the OLA group. The group has been linked to the massacre of thousands of civilians and kidnappings in the region and other parts of Ethiopia as well.

At the time of this writing, Benishangul Gumuz regional state government communication or the Federal government remarked about the latest incident. Oromo Liberation Army has not remarked on the Bulen incident yet.

  1. You folks have missed the point. You don’t understand the whole purpose of ‘liberating people’. Let me give you the rundown since you did not get it. Here it is and mark it down. Killing innocent citizens means liberating people. That is all to it. Is that too hard to understand? Ganja toting, young college girls raping bigot is doing it and that is how he liberated 100% of Oromia and my people. That was why ONLF before him did it and how it liberated the entire Ogadenia including all of Western Hararghe, Arsi and Bale. You don’t believe it? Ask his rep on Peachtree Street.
