Toronto –  Ethiopia’s PM office on Tuesday conveyed what appears to be an apologetic message a day after images of apple the Abiy Ahmed shared on his social media page as  “Ethiopian agricultural” products were found to be fake.

Ethiopia FactCheck, a social media page, revealed that the images that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed shared to demonstrate apple produce from Ethiopian agriculture were taken from other websites and do not reflect apple produce from Ethiopian agriculture.

Based on information that Ethiopia Fact Check shared, the images are from a commercial site and they were used to explain “Semi-Dwarf Cortland Apple Tree” – apparently from North America.

Admitting the images were shared by mistake, the office of the Prime Minister linked the issue to lower government structures at regional level that sent the picture to the office of the Prime Minister.

The statement from the office of the Prime Minister partly reads, “…we recognize that in an instance of a post yesterday, the information flow from the grassroots administrative level to the Prime Minister, was a case of inaccurate photo image insertion together with accurate ones. The images shared in this case yesterday are an example of such mistakes in the channel from the regional level to the federal. We are taking measures to prevent their recurrence.”

The images were removed from the Prime Minister’s page immediately after  Ethiopia Fact Check exposed the story. The Prime Minister’ office has confirmed the removal.

“We appreciate citizens who spotted the inaccuracy and everyone’s understanding. The accurate story of the exemplary farm yield will be presented through the media soon,”  the office added.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister has been criticized over what many say is the narcissistic instinct of sharing pictures over social media about his “achievement” of his administration when the country has been engulfed in war for more than five years now.

The office of the Prime Minister has a different narrative about the Prime Minister’s social media habits and sharing stories. It said,  “the Prime Minister’s communication approach has been remarkably accessible and open, aimed at sharing insights and inspiring action and productivity through his unique lens and experiences.”

  1. The best way to finally end Abiy Ahmed Ali is to prove his incompetence on a large scale. This is not the first time something like this has happened. There are at least a dozen different incidents. Then with that, add in all the prominent assassinations within his first few years.

This guy Abiy is very dangerous, he is a real killer. The problem is he lost support from Ethiopians and Eritreans but now he is getting approval from Blacks and Africans who want to destroy our country for their own benefit. That’s why I hate Pan-Africa…. it is genocidal!

    • Nonsense! You might criticize Abiy or Nebiy, but not Pan-Africanism and Pan- African heroes. You don’t seem to know what Pan-African movement was and what it did to Africa.. The late Pan-African lions were not a Pan-Dollar generation as yours is now. When were you born? Defar!!!!
