Toronto – Intensive battles are reported in Gojjam and Gondar in the past two days. Government reportedly deployed another round of massive forces in the Gojjam area with the aim to annihilate the fano forces.
As it turns out, the Fano forces in Gojjam managed to repel the government offensive. Ethiopian Media Services (EMS), U.S. and Europe based Ethiopian news outlet, on Thursday cited Yohannes Alemayehu, deputy PR of Gojjam Fano, to report that the Fano forces even took control of Amanuel and other towns.
Government forces ( composed of the defense force, anti-riot) are said to have suffered serious losses but the exact figures are undisclosed. Fano forces have also reported minimal causality on their side.
Similarly, an intensive battle is reported in the South Gondar area of the Amhara region. According to the source, Semada town in south Gondar was under Fano forces for a few hours after the government forces were forced to retreat following severe losses.
The Fano forces in Gondar are also saying that they are preparing for operations to control urban centers in the region.
A new video footage from Gondar Fano that is circulating on social media shows dozens of newly captured government forces from the Federal government police force ; two of them are women. The leader of the fano speaking in front of the captured government forces said 30 government forces were killed and 24 others wounded.
The Defense Force has not remarked about the latest battles in Gondar and Gojam. It was only four days ago that it reported about the “surrender” of a leading Fano leader in Shewa, Assegin Mekenen. Based on information that borkena gathered from sources with links to movement in the Amhara region, it looks like the Fano leader was rather captured after what appears to be leaked information to government forces.
As well, there was intense fighting in North Wollo, South Wollo ( Western part) and Shoa areas of the Amhara region. General Tefera, former Amhara region special forces commander, who joined Fano officially a few weeks ago is believed to be in Shoa and be organizing the forces there but it is not confirmed from multiple sources.
Meanwhile, the regional government leaders are reiterating a call for peaceful dialogue for Fano at a location and time of the latter’s choice – something the Fano forces reject.
Much of the Amhara region is under the control of Fano forces.
