Toronto – A week after the release of a statement by Ethiopia’s Federal Government Communication Service Ministry addressing the famine situation and other issues, the Interim Administration under Getachew Reda in the Tigray region of Ethiopia responded, deeming the initial statement as inappropriate.

While demonstrating a spirit of what sounds like amicable political engagement with the Federal government, it strongly rejected some of the assertions. It appears that the Interim administration analyzed federal government assertions, rejecting them from political and constitutional law points of view.

The assertion that an agreement has been reached to resolve territorial disputes through a “referendum is absolutely wrong.”  It explained its position by arguing that “it is outside of the power of the interim government and the Federal government, and outside of the agreement reached in Pretoria to resolve the issue through the constitution.”   The TPLF-led government refers to the areas that are portrayed as “disputed” as Western and Southern Tigray – a reference to Wolkait and Raya areas respectively. These areas were parts of Gondar and Tigray before the TPLF took power in 1991. Three years later the current Federal constitution was adopted under the influence of TPLF and made those regions “recognized as parts of Tigray.”

Another key issue that the Tigray Interim government protested about was the description of “genuinely displaced people have been returned.”    The statement sees it as “dangerous.” It gives legal cover to what it called “destructive activity” using the capacity of a neighboring country. It is also seen as an intent to “change the country’s map by force.” For the interim government, it “worsens” the situation. The statement claims that over one million people are living in a difficult situation.

Furthermore, the interim government seems to be skeptical of Federal government claims that measures have been taken to ensure accountability in connection with the atrocities committed in the region. It asserted that ensuring accountability is not a matter of campaign implying the need for expertise and inclusion of all those that needed to be involved.

Tigray Interim government also sees a statement from the Federal Government Communications Services Ministry from a week ago which raised questions about funds channeled to the region and what it called the “politicization famine” when “there is none.”

“We do not believe that the release of the statement is appropriate as we were waiting for the appointment [meeting] with the Federal government for a briefing on what has been done so far and what we were unable to get done,” it said.  Many of the issues raised by the Ministry of Government Communication Services would have been addressed during the meeting with Federal authorities, said the Tigray region.

  1. Again, you two, PM Abiy and Tigray Region President Getachew; Stop playing with words. Get your smart aleck body in gear and stop, I say stop, citizens’ death from starvation. How dare even start to think about exporting cereals while citizens are dying? How dare you? O my goodness! O my goodness! Where did these guys come from? Are they the products of the same noble people we know? I am utterly disappointed of both of you. President Getachew; Rein in those in your region who were caught stealing sacks of wheat destined to feed the desperately needy. Catch them and charge them with treason. Their repugnant theft was the reason international aid groups decided to stop sending food aid to your region. Get your house in order first. Bus these demons to jail and throw away the keys to deter others from joining in the repulsive act. You two stop your pissing contest and stop the dying of civilians now! I can’t believe this! I just can’t believe you two!!!

  2. The Pretoria agreement is flawed because it does not specify and assert Tigray sovereignty over western Tigray occupied by Amhara forces.. Now the Eritrean trained and armed Amhara forces have entrenched their positions in the region and even defeating the Oromo dominated government army in the Amhara region. The government of Abiy Ahmed is in a weak position. Tigray as a regional power should not be bound by the Pretoria agreement and should liberate western Tigray by legitimate force. Short of this, Tigray citizens should rise up and remove the corrupt and incompetent TPLF from power.

    • Anyone older than 30 years old knows there was NO such thing called “western Tigray”,; it was known for many millennia (thousands of years) as the province of Begameder with its capital Gonder.
No one or nothing will ever change that fact !!!

Liberate yourselves from your delusional thinking of, that some foreign-idiot that comes along will somehow & some day will bring something you haven’t had, for you to live a better life… & by being always ready to kiss a foreigner-ass by keeping your “banda” tendencies as your tradition & passing it on to your next generations… such as your modern day TPLF (US dogs) whose followers have fallen in unmarked mass graves everywhere…

That is how it always ends for all Ethiopia’s enemies within & without (Somalia in 1970’s, Sudan who knows how long, and soon Egypt & USA…etc. (keep your eyes open).
As the old saying goes: “what goes around comes around”, & all we say to all of you and them-all is “RIP”!!!

      Be well.

  3. Here we are still caught up with pushing war and destruction while millions are starving and face inevitable deadly famine. We are beating the drums of war from our comfy homes while innocent citizens are dying from starvation. People can die from diseases like cancer or epidemics and their deaths can be agonizing. People dying from starvation take their last breath after going through a slow and the most agonizing deaths of all. It is confirmed that about 400 people, adults and children have now died from starvation already with much higher number of deaths to follow. I’m holding the leaders of Tigray, Amhara regions along with leaders of armed groups in Amhara, Oromia and the top echelon of the federal government responsible for every death from this avoidable famine. There will not be an iota of excuse for this tragedy.

Your Excellency Prime Minster Abiy; Citizens are dying from starvation under your watch. H.E. Regional President of Tigray Getachew Reda; This is happening under your watch. I will be holding you both responsible for every Allah blessed human life lost to starvation. What you are doing and behaving in light of this deadly calamity is utterly irresponsible and criminal. I’m not buying your diatribe trying to pass the buck. ‘He did it, not me’ ain’t gonna flying with me or the watchful global public. People are dying from starvation in your backyard and you go home to gobble down your choice filet mignon? I can see you both where you waist line is bursting at it seams. You are sending your children to schools well fed while another child die crying from starvation? You may try playing with words to call it drought or lack of food but the reality is citizens are dying because of lack of food for no fault of their own. Damn, damn, damn, damned you two!!! Damn, damn, damned you two!!!!! Damn you!!!!

Again, you two, PM Abiy and Tigray Region President Getachew; Stop playing with words. Get your smart aleck body in gear and stop, I say stop, citizens’ death from starvation.
