Ethiopian Federal Police told the Federal Court, in writing, that it could not deliver court order to former spy chief, Getachew Assefa, who is believed to be in a hideout in Tigray northern Ethiopia, VOA Amharic Service reported on Monday

According to Meleskachew Ameha, VOA Amharic reporter in Addis Ababa, the Federal police told the court that it faxed the court order to Federal Police branch in Tigray region but it was not delivered for the branch office does not know the addresses of the suspects including Asbeha Giday, Assefa Belay and Sisay Leul, all former members of the country’s intelligence agency.

The Federal Police went on to suggest to the court to write cooperation letter to Tigray region police commission.

On the other hand, the Federal prosecutor is arguing the cases of the suspects could be seen in absentia after they are notified via print media (Newspaper).

The spy chief, Getachew Assefa, and his three former colleagues are facing serious corruption charges that could entail up to 12 years in prison.

The court will decide on the prosecutor’s request on June 19, 2019.
