By Staff Writer
(Nairobi, Kenya) — At least 34 Orthodox Christian civilians have been confirmed dead following a sudden coordinated attack by armed groups in Endato Kebele, located within the Robe Woreda of East Arsi Zone.
The assault began at approximately 11:00 AM in Endato Kebele. Mahibere Kidusan Television reported that local residents and church representatives gathered the bodies of 34 victims at Endato Debre Mitmaq St. Mary Church. Community members warned that the death toll could rise as search and recovery efforts continue.
The incident follows a similar attack on October 24 in neighboring Shirka Woreda, heightening security fears across adjacent rural kebeles.
Eyewitnesses reported that attackers also targeted government security personnel dispatched to stabilize the area. The assault injured numerous residents, while blocked roadways prevented victims from accessing medical care in nearby urban centers.
In addition to causing casualties, attackers set fire to multiple commercial institutions and private residences, destroying property. Local residents noted that targeted attacks in Endato Kebele have recurred periodically since January 2024, and they urged federal security forces to establish permanent protection to restore regional stability.
