(Nairobi, Kenya) — The opposition Enat Party has issued a statement strongly condemning the continued killings of peaceful civilians in the East Arsi Zone of the Oromia Region, while sharply criticizing the government for promoting zonal leaders who previously denied the occurrence of attacks in the region.

In an official press statement released on October 18, 2026, the party highlighted recent violence in Lalo Kebele within Honkolo Wabe Woreda, where three farmers—identified as Zenebe Negash, Samuel Wale, and Birku Abera—were killed by armed groups while performing agricultural fieldwork. The Enat Party characterized the October 12 incident as emblematic of broader, systemic security threats facing rural communities across the zone.

The party directed strong criticism toward federal and regional authorities for failing to enforce legal accountability against former zonal administrators who had publicly denied civilian casualties.

The Enat Party stated that appointing former leadership figures to higher government positions while mass civilian casualties persist signals a severe deterioration of official justice and human dignity within public governance.

Concluding its statement, the Enat Party called on residents of the Arsi Zone and adjacent areas to maintain vigilance and organize self-protection measures against potential existential threats.

The party urged the Holy Synod, the Council of Religions, local elders, and national and international human rights advocacy organizations to fulfill their institutional responsibilities by investigating the violence, while calling on international media outlets and foreign diplomats to direct urgent attention to the security situation in the area.
