(Nairobi, Kenya) — More than 30 surgeons and medical professionals from across Africa have begun specialized training at two newly opened medical hubs in Addis Ababa, marking a significant expansion of robotic and minimally invasive surgical capacity on the continent.

Hosted at the Addis Ababa Silk Road General Hospital, the launch of the China-Africa Robotic Surgery Training Center and the China-Africa Endoscopic Technology Training Center took place alongside the rollout of a broader hospital cooperation program during an official ceremony attended by Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie. The initiative operates under the framework of the China-Africa Hospital Alliance’s Endoscopic and Minimally Invasive Surgery Cooperation Programme, though specific manufacturer models and brand names of the robotic and endoscopic systems deployed at the facilities have not been publicly detailed, according to sources

In his opening address, President Taye emphasized that the initiative will further fortify the strategic partnership between Ethiopia and China. Underscoring that introducing modern medical technology is a core government responsibility, he highlighted the vital role advanced equipment plays in improving public health outcomes.

Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba affirmed that the ministry is committed to advancing Ethiopia’s broader health reform agenda. She stressed that healthcare workforce development remains a top priority, noting that these training centers will nurture a new generation of surgical specialists and serve as regional hubs for excellence.

Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Chen Hai noted that bilateral cooperation between China and Africa continues to expand across multiple sectors. Highlighting their long-starthing partnership in public health, the ambassador affirmed that both nations will continue collaborating on human resource development and medical capacity-building.

The advanced surgical centers are fully operational, and the inaugural cohort includes practicing physicians and surgical specialists from Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Libya, and several other African nations.

  1. In a country where the country needs lots of education in health, economics etc, they are training robots to train as surgeons, when there should be more people to be trained for health care? Ethiopia is doomed!

Why did pp government did not eliminate Tplf let alone Olf? Because pp is restructuring the country including developing Addis for Western take over of the country via corporations. China is part of this. Right now Western corporations are flocking into the country taking natural resources. Of course, they will hire ceos as Ethiopian but the wealth products resources is for West. Ethiopians are preparing for slavery
