(Nairobi, Kenya) — Ethiopia is playing a leading role in combating regional terrorism and promoting Horn of Africa stability, declared Lieutenant General Abdurrahman Ismail, Head of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) Logistics Main Department.
Speaking at the opening of the African Logistics and Communications Symposium in Addis Ababa—co-hosted by Ethiopia and the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM)—Lt. Gen. Abdurrahman emphasized Ethiopia’s decades-long commitment to continental and global security frameworks.
The continental military forum brought together senior defense leaders, international military delegations, and army chiefs from across Africa. Key attendees included Ethiopian Minister of Defense Engineer Aisha Mohammed, U.S. AFRICOM Commander General Dagvin Anderson, and Lt. Gen. Abdurrahman. Addresses during the opening sessions highlighted the strategic necessity of military cooperation to address evolving security threats across the continent.
Addressing delegates, Lt. Gen. Abdurrahman noted that Ethiopia has executed successful counter-terrorism and peace-enforcement missions by maintaining comprehensive logistics and communication networks. He stressed that disorganized communication channels severely impair joint defense operations, urging African defense forces to modernize their tactical systems to match contemporary operational environments.
“Without an organized communication system, military operations face immense hurdles,” the general stated, noting that the symposium offers a timely platform for regional militaries to adopt modern strategies and overcome campaign deployment challenges.
