Nairobi, Kenya—The United States has pledged to work in close partnership with Ethiopia to strengthen peace and stability across East Africa. Speaking during a parliamentary session attended by the speaker of the House of Peoples’ Representatives, Tagesse Chafo, the US ambassador to Ethiopia, Ervin Massinga, underscored Washington’s determination to deepen cooperation in the security and technology sectors.
Ambassador Massinga emphasized that regional threats such as terrorism, cross-border insecurity, and human trafficking cannot be addressed by any single nation. He called for information exchange and institutional collaboration to ensure reliable and sustainable peace. Strengthening Ethiopia’s security institutions, he noted, is fundamental to building lasting stability both within the country and across the Horn of Africa.
The parliamentary session also deliberated on cybersecurity, the risks and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence, and the protection of critical infrastructure. Ambassador Massinga highlighted America’s readiness to expand cooperation in these areas, stressing that future collaboration will be guided by transparency, accountability, and shared values.
The ambassador’s remarks reflect the deepening partnership between the US and Ethiopia, extending beyond traditional security concerns to include emerging technological challenges. By reinforcing cooperation in both security and innovation, the two nations aim to build a resilient framework for peace and development in East Africa.
