Propaganda material for IMF and Westerners: Abiy claims he killed 116 Fano soldiers

Fano _ Abiy _ Propaganda
From the author’s archive

By Ayele Meshesha

We know that Abiy is in deep trouble in containing the Fano forces who are supported by the vast majority of the nearly 30 million people in the Amhara region. Abiy and his government’s policy towards the Fano is to undermine them by portraying them as a small group of extreme rebel forces that can be contained and destroyed in a week. That is how they started the war in the region three years ago. They always refer to it as a “conflict” as a strategy to downplay its significance. But it is the real deal. He recruits around 40,000 soldiers every three months and sends them to the region in multiple rounds, probably more than 10 rounds, maybe even more so far, and all of them are either killed, wounded, captured, or switch sides to fight the government itself. How many tens of thousands of soldiers has he sacrificed so far? Abiy and his generals know the secret. They extend their stay in power by allowing young people to die in vain.

The propaganda: “We have killed 116 Fano forces”

The laughable propaganda machine of Abiy Ahmed Ali this week claimed that the military had killed 116 Fano rebels during the June 30 mission. The aim of that operation was to destroy or weaken Fano forces before launching an all-out war against Tigray forces. Why only 116 Fano soldiers? There is a crafty reason. They want to convince their foreign sponsors that the Fano are just a small group of rebels, that they are successfully eliminating them, and that the government remains in full control of the region. The message is clear: IMF, you can release the rest of the money; World Bank, the same applies to you; USA, UK and EU, you can still count on us as a reliable regional partner; UAE, you can continue investing in us and using us as your proxy to do your dirty work in the region. Israel, you can depend on us to advance your interests here, including undermining the GERD for Egypt’s sake. That is what you advised us to do, and we are doing it. By claiming they killed just 116 fighters, they are trying to show they are effective. However, this propaganda is cheap, laughable, and ultimately futile.

“We are alive” – Fano Forces who were listed as killed

Those who were listed as killed have surfaced on social media, declaring that they are alive. They provided detailed information about how government forces were neutralized during this latest round of fighting, especially in the Gojjam region. In doing so, they debunked the false propaganda claims made by Abiy Ahmed Ali. In fact, the Fano forces in the Amhara region, including Wellega, have become a formidable fighting force. They are now one of the major powers in the region. They enjoy broad support from millions of people both inside the country and in the diaspora. They are built on the firm foundation that freedom and justice are the key elements of human life.

Fano forces are fighting for dignity, equal rights, and their very existence, because there are forces that have shown themselves willing to kill farmers, children, women, and civilians. This brutality was clearly displayed during the two-year war in Tigray, which killed around 600,000 people, the vast majority of them from Tigray. The same generals who led that war are now operating in the Amhara region, attempting to repeat the same atrocities over the past three years. That is why the Fano forces have adopted an effective strategy to defeat this evil government, a regime that has ruled the country and sought to kill and destroy millions non-stop since it came to power. Unlike in the Tigray war, the Fano will not face them in the same way.  They are using guerrilla tactics and other asymmetric strategies.

The END is approaching Fast for Abiy Ahmed Ali

Abiy and his inner circle know they cannot defeat or eliminate 30 million people in the Amhara region. Even those who support him, largely because he comes from what is perceived as the largest ethnic group in the country, understand very well that a prolonged conflict with millions of Amhara people will bring no good outcome for Ethiopia. Yet, for some reason, they continue to back an incapable, inefficient, and brainless group to lead the country. They are not willing to let him go. They have invested too much in him. They groomed him to be accepted by the public, awarded him the Nobel Prize, provided him with billions of dollars repeatedly, and covered up his war crimes.  In return, he is ruthlessly implementing their agenda in the country. Of course, he is also equipping the RSF in Sudan and carrying out other tasks for them. However, this arrangement is becoming unsustainable. They can no longer prop up “kid Abiy.” He was given too much support to grow quickly, but he has failed to mature into a capable leader.

There is now a growing division within his own ranks, particularly inside the OPDO. Meanwhile, opposition forces in the region are uniting. The military is cracking under strain after suffering the senseless destruction of tens of thousands of its forces in a meaningless war over the past three years, which has weakened the institution to its knees. The country has become significantly poorer due to the endless conflicts of the past six years. On top of that, the Ethiopian people have reached a breaking point, the living situation has become unbearable.

Message to powers supporting Abiy Ahmed Ali

In this multipolar age, when nations have multiple choices of allies, such as BRICS, those who continue to back this childish group to lead the country should know better. The UK, EU, and US must understand that disintegrating Ethiopia will result in a massive human wave of refugees. The Horn of Africa will become unsafe for everyone, severely affecting the Red Sea and other critical shipping lanes. Why do you take so much risk by standing with this weak government?

Changing the country’s leadership from an ethnic group of roughly 6 million to one of around 32 million has not worked at all. There were far more stability and progress under the TPLF leadership than under these clowns currently in power. If you truly want stability in the region, you have the wrong people in charge. If your goal is to weaken and destroy Ethiopia, then congratulations, you have exactly the right people in place. Keep supporting them, and they will deliver precisely that outcome.

However, if you genuinely want peace in the country and the region, the right step is to bring this group of war criminals before the ICC. That is exactly where they belong. Ethiopians are watching you. Africans are learning what you do. In times of need, they might switch their support, especially in this new age of technological and geopolitical competition. Come to your senses.

  1. Thank you Sir! well said
The west is always naively support the sitting Ethiopian so-called government. Has the westerners ever visited the disgraceful poverty let alone in Addis-Ababa & its surroundings??? For sure, they will cry …
To mention some of them: go to Mercato, Autobus Tera, Addis Ketema, Kechené Medhané Alem, Berenda, Mesalemiya, Kolfe,Emmanuel Church, Abnet, Molamaru, Geja Sefer, Lideta,Tekelehaymanot, Tichid Tera, Amestegna, Keranyo, Koka Cola, Tesfakokeb school area, Sebategna, Chew Berenda, Kebelé 25, 24, more and more this area covers the largest and poorest parts of Addis-Ababa.
The so-called corridor development is simply to deliberately displace the indigenous to replace them by his favorite ethnic group. Besides, there are no industries, factories or schools or colleges built. Simply buildings and trees and plants that bring nothing to the already impoverished citizens.
The west has deaf ears to understand all this conspiracy of fake news and propaganda including the deliberate active war in Amhara &Tigray, Oromia. The west should help Ethiopia without wasting any time. Especially by bringing the people from the government to be accountable.
    Thanks.
