Borkena, Toronto, June 24, 2026 – Ethiopian Airlines this week received the first two DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft from De Havilland Canada, a move aimed at expanding domestic air connectivity and improving access to remote communities and tourism destinations across Ethiopia.

The order was placed last year, as previously reported by Borkena

“Ethiopian Airlines proudly welcomes the first of two DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft from De Havilland Canada. Designed for versatility and reliability, these state-of-the-art aircraft will strengthen regional connectivity while supporting tourism activities, aerial surveys, air ambulance services, and other operations,” the airline said in a brief statement on its social media page.

Ethiopian Airlines’ expansion strategy continues to place strong emphasis on domestic destinations. The acquisition of smaller aircraft such as the DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G is intended to support the airline’s efforts to expand domestic connectivity and provide access to remote areas and tourism destinations across Ethiopia, according to its latest statement.

The manufacturer describes the DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G as a highly versatile aircraft. Ryan DeBrusk, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at De Havilland Canada, said:

“The Twin Otter’s proven reliability, versatility, and ability to operate in challenging environments make it well suited to the diverse missions Ethiopian Airlines will undertake across the region. We value the trust Ethiopian Airlines has placed in De Havilland Canada and look forward to supporting their continued growth and commitment to connecting communities throughout East Africa.”

Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tassew also highlighted the aircraft’s capabilities for domestic operations.

“This new aircraft is configured for multi-purpose missions, including charter operations to tourist destinations, airport calibration, aerial surveys, air ambulance services, and others. Our commitment to promoting tourism and providing essential air services in Ethiopia will remain at the core of our strategic objectives,” he said.

Ethiopian Airlines has been expanding its network over the past two decades. The carrier currently serves more than 160 domestic and international destinations, including cargo routes.
