Toronto – Ethiopia’s Federal Police on Sunday said suspects in the killing of Adanech Kumasa, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) employee who was killed in December 2025 is arrested.
Police said the suspect in the homicide case is Tsegaye Asalefew Gonete.
Describing the circumstances of the killing, police said that the suspect and the victim were dining in an unspecified restaurant in the evening of December 15, 2025 – apparently in Sendafa where the victim was living with her two children.
There was an argument while they were dining and she left the restaurant. It was at that time that the suspect followed her, forced her to a car ( description not provided) and shot her to death in “Gomata” locality of the town.
The suspect then dumped her body in a sewage canal before he disappeared.
According to a police report, the vehicle and handgun with which he killed her was found abandoned in Aleltu town.
Furthermore, police said that the stain of blood in the car and the handgun has been used as forensic evidence in the manhunt for the suspect.
Police said it was coordinating with National Intelligence and Security Services, “other security forces” and Sendafa Beke town administration during the search for the suspect.
The suspect reportedly obtained fraudulent I.D.s which he used as a cover to stay in Debre Birhan (only 120 kilometers north of Addis Ababa), Kemissie, Shewa Robit and Ataye towns in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
Investigation is still underway indicating that the suspect did not appear in court. Police unspecified when the suspect was arrested.
