Toronto, ON May 2, 2026 – The Ethiopian Association in the Greater Toronto Area and Surrounding  Regions has elected a new Board of Directors following a successful General Meeting, marking a  renewed phase of leadership focused on community impact, partnerships, and inclusive engagement. 

For over four decades, the Association has played a vital role in supporting Ethiopian Canadians  through community services, cultural programming, and initiatives that foster connection, integration,  and collective advancement across the GTA. 

The newly elected Board will build on this legacy with a focus on strengthening governance, expanding  partnerships, and enhancing the Association’s role as a trusted platform for community voice and  collaboration. 

“This is a moment to build on our strong foundation and move forward with clarity, unity, and  purpose,” said Rahel Gettu, President of the Ethiopian Association in GTA. “Our priority is to  strengthen how we serve our community, deepen partnerships, and ensure the Association continues to  be a space where all members feel represented, connected, and empowered.” 

The Association extends its sincere appreciation to its members for their active participation and  continued trust, as well as to the outgoing Board of Directors for their dedicated service and leadership.

Wondwosen Gebru — Board Member

Etsubdink Lealem — Board Member

The Board brings together a diverse group of leaders with experience in community engagement,  governance, finance, and communications, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening the  Association’s impact. 

As the Ethiopian community continues to grow across Canada, the Association remains committed to  fostering unity, supporting community well-being, and building collaborative relationships with public,  private, and community partners.
