Toronto – A day after the office of the prime minister officially announced the extension of Tadesse Worede’s term as president of Tigray Region Interim Administration, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) on Thursday announced that the decision is unacceptable.

The Federal government decision came a day after what was described as a consultative meeting between Tadesse Worede and his team , and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.  His term is extended by one year.

TPLF called it unilateral action that “violates the Pretoria Agreement.”  The agreement ended the two years bloody war between the Federal government and the TPLF.

The Federal government itself has been accusing the TPLF of violating the agreement.

For the TPLF, the Interim administration should be formed through a bilateral political arrangement. In other words, it is saying that it should have been part of the process in the appointment of the president to the interim administration.

“This unilateral action will endanger the relative peace over the past three years,” TPLF said in a statement it released on Thursday.

The statement also “informed”  Pretoria Agreement mediators and the international community that the decision to extend Tadesse Worede’s term in office was made without a “bilateral” political discussion.

The two parties were already on the verge of war. The Federal government has been accusing the TPLF of plotting to start a war against the Federal government in alliance with Eritrea.

There have been reports that the Federal government deployed troops to the Tigray region but was later withdrawn as pressure on the defense force mounted in the Amhara and Oromia region in connection with rebel activities in those regions.

The Federal government is yet to respond to the allegation from TPLF.  A federal election is scheduled to take place in June this year. However, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s party has not fielded candidates in the region – something that is indicative of how tense the situation is in the region.

  1. I agree with the ‘gold’ race Debre. This extension of Tadesse’s leadership term should have been first pre-approved by the ‘Uni-polar/Multi-polar theoretician Al-Toweel Isu.

  2. Hey Debre,

I heard the gold business is booming in your backyard managed by your lieutenants. Can I come there to pick up just a few myself? All I need is 2 kilos. I can teleport myself and be there in a jiffy.
