Toronto – Israel’s President Isaac Herzog is set to visit Ethiopia next week, according to Israeli news sources.
He will be meeting with senior Ethiopian government officials, including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, during his one day official visit.
The visit is part of Israel’s effort to strengthen relations with African countries. Israel is said to have a geopolitical interest in the horn of Africa and vowed to deepen its collaboration with Somaliland, something that has angered Mogadishu.
When Türkiye president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Ethiopia this week, he expressed his opposition to Israel’s recognition of Somalia’s break away region, Somaliland, which existed as a de facto state for over 34 years.
He said that the “recognition does not benefit Somaliland or the region.” The remark prompted a strong response from the Somaliland government. It said the remark from Erdogan is “unacceptable interference aimed at discouraging relations between Somaliland and regional partners.”
There has been rumor that Ethiopia will be following Israel in recognizing Somaliland as an Independent state. Renewed conversation between Ethiopia and Somaliland is underway. However, Borkena has been unable to confirm it.

እስራኤል መነፅሯን ኢትዮጵያ ላይ አነጣጥራለች። የኢትዮጵያን አቀማመጥ እና የአፍሪካ አህጉር መዲናነትን አስመልክቶ ነው። እስራኤል ከገባችበት ሥፍራ ሁሉ ችግር አይታጣም። ከጎረቤቶቻችን እና ከአገራችን ብዙ ሕዝብ ሙስሊም በመሆኑ ግንኙነታችን ብዙ ጥንቃቄ ይሻል። እስራኤል ኢትዮጵያዉያንን ለማማለል የወሰደችውን አካሄድ ልብ እንበል፦ እስራኤል 2ሺህ ያህል ሰው ሞቶባት፤ ከ72ሺህ በላይ ሕፃናትና አሮጊቶች ፍልስጤማውያንን በሃማስ ስም በጨፈጨፈችበት ሰሞን ቴዲ አፍሮን እስራኤል ድረስ መጥቶ እንዲጨፍር ጋብዛው ነበር። በጥሩ ገንዘብ። ቴዲ ገንዘቡን አይቶ ራሱን መግዛት አልቻለም። ከሰቆቃው ይልቅ በንዋይ ተሸነፈ። ያ ሁሉ ግፍ መሓል ሁሉ ሰላም እንደ ሆነ ለማስመሰል በተዘረጋው ዲፕሎማቲክ ወጥመድ ተጠልፎ ወደቀ። የእስራኤልን ባንዲራ ጀርባው ላይ ሰቅሎ መድረኩን አሟሟቀ። ከዚያ ፕሮፌሰር ፍቅሬ ቶሎሳ በምርመር ስም ቀጠለ። በገንዘብ ነው። ከዚያ ኤፍሬም ታምሩ ነው። በገንዘብ። ሦስቱም የተጋበዙት በእስራኤል መንግሥት አይደለም ማለት ራስን መደለል ነው። ሦስቱም ጥሪውን ላለመቀበል ይችሉ ነበር። አልፈለጉም። ወደ ኢየሩሳሌም ጉዞ ወኪሎች (ተጓዡን የሚሰብኩት በተንጋደደ መረጃ ነው)። ለእውነት ሳይሆን ለገንዘብ ነዋ! ፓስተር ቸርነት በላይ በአንደኛው ስብከቱ ላይ፦ እግዚአብሔር በሕዝብ ጭፍጨፋ የተሰማራውን ነታንያሁ ስለሚመራት እስራኤል ነው ወይ የሚናገረው? በማለቱ ብቻ፣ በኢትዮጵያ የእስራኤል አምባሳደር፣ የዲፕሎማቲክ ድንበር ጥሶ “ፀረ ጽዮናዊ” ነህ ሊያጣጥለው ሊያዋርደው ሞክሯል! ፓስተር ቸርነት በገዛ አገሩ አሳቡን እንዳይናገር እየተከለከለ መሆኑ ስንቶች ወንጌል አማኞችን አስቆጣ? እነ ዐቢይ ልቡና ከሰጣቸው፣ ለቱርኪ እና ለእስራኤል መፋለምያ እንዳያደርጉን ያሰጋል። ኢትዮጵያውያን ክርስቲያኖች አለን፤ ሙስሊሞችም። አብረን መኖር ዛሬ አልተጀመረም። መተሳሰባችን አብሮነታችን በውጭ ኃይላት፣ በከንቱ መሪዎቻችን እንዳይበከል እንጠባበቅ።
