Toronto – Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Wojciech Jacek Zajączkowski led a delegation to Ethiopia for the 4th Ethio-Poland Political consultation.

It took place on Thursday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital Addis Ababa.

Ambassador Hadera Abera, State Minister, briefed Mr. Wojciech Jacek Zajączkowsk on economic reforms in the country and urged Polish Investment.

pharmaceuticals, agriculture, renewable energy, and mining are priority areas for investors , the state minister briefed the Polish delegation.

However, more cooperation areas were identified on the part of Ethiopia.  The news update from the ministry cited the Hadera as noting  “education, agriculture, natural resource management, agro-processing, ICT, water resource management, capacity building, and air services”   as areas “for deeper cooperation.”

Also, Ethiopia, as expressed through the state minister, seems to see importance in links at the institutional level between the Ethiopian Institute of Foreign Affairs and the Polish Diplomatic Institute. Digital transformation and e-governance are areas proposed for cooperation in that regard.

In terms of the ways to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, Hadera emphasized on the importance of reviewing agreements the two countries signed with the aim to tailor them to  “current global dynamics.”

Poland has suggested organizing a business forum with the aim to stimulate engagement – apparently with the business community to promote investment.

The consultation concluded with affirmation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated,  “both sides reaffirmed their commitment to broadening cooperation in areas such as air services, education, agriculture, digital technology, defense, and the exchange of expertise on economic reforms and financial policy.” The nature of cooperation in the area of defense is left murky.

Warsaw, 7 June 2025 — Karol Nawrocki, a 42-year-old historian and former boxer, won the Polish presidential runoff election on Monday with 50.89% of the vote, narrowly defeating Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, who garnered 49.11%. Nawrocki, who is a devout Catholic, campaigned on traditional Catholic values and cultural conservatism, pledging to maintain close ties with the Church and to veto liberal reforms on abortion and same-sex unions.During his campaign, Nawrocki made symbolic statements, including publicly shredding a copy of “Gender Queer: A Memoir”, signalling his opposition to liberal social policies. His presidency is set to reinforce the influence of the Catholic Church in Polish politics and society, reaffirming faith as a cornerstone of national identity amid ongoing cultural and political debates.
