Toronto – The 2025 Sofi Malt Great Ethiopian Run International 10km race took place in the Ethiopian capital on Sunday.
The 25th edition of the Great Ethiopian Run attracted tens of thousands of local participants and tourists as well. Participants who purchased a ticket via Dashen Bank app only was reported to be 55,000.
Melknat Wuku won the race in 32.11.02 seconds. She was awarded a cup and 400,000 Ethiopian Birr.
Fitaw Zeray finished second in 32.11.5 and took home 200,000 Ethiopian Birr, according to a report by The Great Ethiopian Run.
Meselech Alemayehu claimed the third position in a 32.19.7. She collected 100,000 birr.
In the men’s category, Yismaw Dillu crossed the finishing line first in 28:25.2. Addisu Negash finished second in 28:28.6 and Dinkalem Ayele third in 28:29.2 hours. The amount of cash award is same.
Kenyan long distance running legends Paul Tergat, Daniel Komen and Moses Tanui attended the event, according to sources.
It was Haile Gebreselassie, revered Ethiopian long distance athlete, who established the Great Ethiopian Run in 2001.
