Toronto – At least three followers of Ethiopian Tewahedo Orthodox Church Followers killed in a fresh attack in Arsi, Oromia region of Ethiopia. One person is said to be in a life threatening condition after the attack and three others are kidnapped.
Two of the victims are said to be one family member, and identified as Batry Kassa and Solomon Kassa.
The name of the other two victims (one of who is in life threatening condition) is unidentified, according to U.S based Adebabay Media report which is close to church sources
The whereabouts to those kidnapped is unknown at the time of this writing.
The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of Saturday in Sherka district, Mitana Henissa Kebele, close to the Mitana Yohannes Church locality.
Those killed were laid to rest at Yohannes Church on Saturday.
According to the source, perpetrators of the attack are known to the chief of the local kebele, Kedir Erboshe. Furthermore, the source cited residents from the area to report that the victims were killed with Ato Erboshe’s validations who are known to host members of the radical militant Oromo nationalists whom the government refers to as “Shene.”
The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) extensively operates across the Oromo region of Ethiopia. And it has been linked to many massacres and kidnappings.
There have been at least five massacres in the district targeting Orthodox Christians over the past few weeks. The Inter Religious Council Of Ethiopia, which is criticized for being a government tool, about two weeks ago claimed that it had investigated the massacre and that it was not targeting Orthodox Christians only.
Enat Party shared a brief update on its social media page condemning the attack. It sees it as undercover genocide targetting Christians. The party tends to think that silence will only aggravate the problem. It is urging people to “protect themselves even if the government is negligent.”
