Toronto – Ethiopian Airlines on Friday announced that it has entered into an agreement with Collins Aerospace, an RTX (NYSE: RTX) business.
The latter will be providing “premium lie-flat business class seating solutions” for Ethiopian Airlines Airbus A350 and Boeing 737 MAX aircrafts.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Dubai Air Show this week.
From what appears to be a joint press statement published on Ethiopian Airlines and Collins Aerospace websites, the contract covers 67 planes.
The statement partly reads “Ethiopian Airlines’ 11 new A350-900 aircraft will feature Collins Elevation suites, offering premium privacy, comfort, and ample space to work, relax and dine. The agreement builds on the strong relationship between the African leading carrier, Ethiopian Airlines and Collins, which is also providing Elevation suites for the airline’s recently announced 777-9 order. Together, the collaboration ensures a consistent and seamless passenger experience across both fleets.
Fifty-six Ethiopian 737 MAX aircraft will be outfitted with Collins’ Parallel Diamond business class seats, bringing elegant design and enhanced wide body comfort for longer range aircraft…”
Ethiopian Airlines anticipates, as Mr. Retta Melaku ‘ Chief Operating Officer remarked, the seats will take the “comfort and overall flight experience to the next level.”
Collins Aerospace’s seats are said to have “advanced kinematic design” and “angled toward the windows to maximize passenger space, privacy and cabin density on a single-aisle aircraft,” the statement said.
Cynthia Muklevicz, vice president of Customer and Business Development at Collins Aerospace, is quoted as saying that “Collins’ suite of premium business class solutions not only provide luxury air travel accommodations but are distinctly tailored to reflect and amplify Ethiopian’s rapidly expanding brand to travelers across the globe.”
Collins Aerospace is a U.S. Company headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was formed in 2018 with a merger of Rockwell Collins and UTC Aerospace Systems and currently has over 80,000 employees.
Ethiopian Airlines has not disclosed the cost or delivery date for the contract.
Notably, the Airlines has announced that it has ordered 6 additional A350-900s positioning itself as Africa’s largest A350 operator.

“When it assumed the presidency of the G20 last year, South Africa hoped that as the first African country to host the gathering of world leaders, it could champion issues that mattered the most to developing nations.
For instance, it wanted the 20 heads of state from the world’s biggest economies to consider arguments that borrowing should be cheaper for developing countries, which pay two to four times more in interest on debts than more advanced economies.” BBC ,Will Trump’s no-show eclipse South Africa’s G20 moment?Mayeni Jones,Africa correspondent,Johannesburg
