Toronto – Fano forces continue to report claims of military gains in the North Wollo area of the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
The Amhara Fano National Forces (AFNF) – East Amhara Menelik Command had a military operation on Saturday against government forces in the Ambasel front, South Wollo area of Amhara region.
The battles were in the Ambasel area. The number of casualties, on both sides, is unspecified.
However, the fano forces have shared a new picture purportedly showing captured during the latest combat operation in the area.
Dozens of forces in defense force uniform are seen in the picture.
The Ethiopia Defense Force has not remarked on the latest claim from Fano forces.
Ambasel is one of the provinces in the region where Fano forces had a strong presence over the past two years. There were times when they entered the historic Wuchale town during this time.
Since the end of last month, the Menelik Command of the Amhara Fano has reported a significant military gain over government forces.
The major one was in the Beklomanekia area of North Wollo where over 470 were killed and more than 150 captured. The government alleged that Eritrea and TPLF forces were involved in the planning and execution of the operation. Fano forces dismissed the allegation as “false.”
Last week, the Fano force handed about 16 wounded captives to the ICRC.
In a related development, some parts of Gojjam, Shewa and Gondar have witnessed a battle between the Fano forces and government soldiers. They claim again and the government has not denied or confirmed the claim.
A few days ago, AFNF Western Command reported that it has killed or wounded over 170 government soldiers. It was the Tewodros Command of Gojjam that reported it via its social media page. The government did not remark on that either.
For many months now, the government has been painting a picture that much of the Fano force is annihilated, and that the remaining work is mostly “clear up.”
