Toronto – Former Tigray Interim Administration President, Getachew Reda, recent interview with Jim Stenman, Global Power Shifts Youtube channel  host, is making headlines.

One of the issues he raised in the 45 minutes long interview is Eritrea and its war strategy against the Prosperity Party government, he used the description of the Federal government.

“Eritreans to fight the Federal government, they want to use useful idiots across their border,” he remarked.

He also remarked on the military stature of Eritrea and their strategy to engage the Abiy Ahmed government.

“Eritreans are very wise…they know that they do not have human resources superiority to fight the Federal government,” he added .

That is why, he continued, they want to use “useful idiots across their borders.”

He also explicitly stated that “Eritrea wants the war far from Eritrea in Southern Tigray or the Amhara Region of Ethiopia, if it can.”

Getachew, who is currently PM Abiy Ahmed’s advisor on East African Affairs, was clear that he is against this alliance and “will fight it to the nail.”  He paints an image that he is opposing the move to make the war, an impending one, be fought on Tigray soil.

Under the TPLF administration, the Tigray region, along with Afar and Amhara region, experienced a bloody two years war from which it did not recover fully.

Getachew Reda also remarked about the Eritrea-TPLF relation. In that regard, he remarked what the TPLF is trying to do is to protect itself from “real or imagined threat” from the Federal government and see if they can form alliance with Eritreans.

The Red Sea is another topic on which he remarked. He advanced the view that “over 135 million Ethiopian people could not remain locked without sea access, and it should not.”

The access to the sea issue has brought Ethiopia and Eritrea on a collision course.

The Ethiopian government and its supporters have been painting the most recent Fano forces significant military gain in North Wollo, where more than 470 government soldiers were killed, as an operation that was conducted with the involvement of Eritrean and TPLF forces.

Either of them responded to the allegation of involvement in the Fano war in North Wollo.

However, Fano forces have dismissed it as “propaganda.”  Fano Asres Mare, of the the key leaders of Amhara Fano National Force (AFNF) this week told Anchor media that the victory is attributed to Fano’s own operation. Yet, he added that Fano forces will be happy if the Eritreans and TPLF forces decided to work with them.

General Tefera Mamo, former member of the Ethiopian Defense Force and currently working with Fano forces, explicitly stated that Fano forces would attack Abiy Ahmed’s forces if it is attacking TPLF or Eritrea.

Although ruling party cadres and pro-government activists are projecting the view that “Fano forces are Eritrean government proxies,” some opposition parties in Ethiopia seem to think that foreign powers could exploit domestic groups who have grievances.

President of the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party (EPRP), one of the major opposition parties in the country and currently a member of Coalition for Ethiopian Unity, told borkena “it is impossible to say whether Eritrea or Egypt will not use disenchanted groups within Ethiopia.”

  1. Tigray is now in the hands of true Tigrayans and the TPLF has renewed its self and purged out elements such as Getachew Reda with almost non-Tigrayan origin. Getachew Reda and his accomplices have the Amhara mindset and do not represent Tigray values. The regional powers Tigray and Eritrea are not involved in the Amhara conflict because they do not need to do so since the Amhara forces are defeating and capturing the forces of Abiy Ahmed. Abiy Ahmed has been misled by his OLF sympatising advisers and undermined the Amhara resistance which is now threatening his government. It hs been the policy of the former EPRDF government to put Amhara under check so that they do not pose any threat to the federal system. However Oromia which is the gift of Tigray to the Oromo people will be defended with the help of TDF.
