Toronto – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is in Russia to attend the Global Atomic Forum. The Kremlin shared video footage of the meeting at the forum.
After the meeting, Abiy Ahmed met with the Russian President. The development of the nuclear power plant was among the issues discussed during the meeting.
The Kremlin reported that “Director General of Rosatom Alexei Likhachev and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia Gedion Timotheos exchanged the earlier signed Action Plan between the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom and the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation on the development of a nuclear power plant project in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.”
A Russian delegation visited Ethiopia in February this year.
President Putin’s assessment of the relation between the two countries appears to be positive. The Kremlin quoted him as saying
“Ethiopia is our long-standing reliable partner in Africa. If I am not mistaken, diplomatic relations between our countries were established in 1898…
Overall, our relations are gaining momentum across all areas, and we are very pleased that things are going that way.”
The talk between PM Abiy Ahmed and President Putin focused on cooperation in the areas of energy, agriculture, healthcare development and defense cooperation, Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed.
Abiy Ahmed invited President Putin to visit Addis Ababa. No remarks from the Kremlin about it.
