Ethiopian Prime Minister has also appointed Enatalem Meles as Government Communication Services Ministry

Toronto – The office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia on Friday announced the appointment of Eyob Tekalgn Tolina as Ethiopia’s National Bank Governor.
The position was vacant for two weeks after Mamo Mihretu announced unexpected resignation in early September due to “to pursue other passions and other challenges.” However, it was reported later that the Prime Minister removed him for unspecified reasons, and a farewell event was organized for him.
Eyob has been serving as a state minister at the Ministry of Finance. Eyob is one of the active government officials on social media platforms. He has not yet shared his reaction to his new appointment. Eyob does not have an experience or background related to the banking sector.
Eyob, as a figure who served as state minister for finance, is a member of the ruling Prosperity Party.
Mamo Mihretu was removed, as some sources say despite the former governor’s claim, about a year after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government introduced macro-economic reform focusing on forex. The fixed rate regime was replaced with a “market based regime.” Over the past one year, the Ethiopian birr lost well over 120 percent of its value against major currencies. Critics like Yonas Biru say the resignation of Mamo Mihretu is an indication that the economic policy has failed.
In a related development, the office of the prime minister has also announced the appointment of Enatalem Meles as Government Communication Services Ministry. She is replacing Legesse Tulu, whose new role is said to be an ambassadorial position to an unspecified country. The government has not specified why Legesse is removed either.
