Toronto – The Eritrean government says the continued sea access agenda on the part of Ethiopia has reached a dangerous point.

The Ministry of Information released a statement in Tigrina language elaborating to Eritreans as to why the agenda is a dangerous one.

The statement is published on the official website of the Ministry.

Prosperity Party officials’ agenda of pursuing sea access by any means will cause a dangerous crisis in the region.

“The dangerous and irresponsible sea access agenda has posed a threat in the region, and it has particularly posed danger to Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to the statement from the ministry.

Over the past few months, Eritrea has been officially reacting to statements and rhetoric from Ethiopia’s ruling party officials and military commanders.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed officially spoke about it when he claimed that restoring Ethiopia’s sea access is an easier task compared to the effort exerted for the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). He said so days before the inauguration of the project on September 9.

Eritrea sees intensifying rhetoric and claims over sea access as something that violates its sovereignty. It also argues that the claim for sea access does not have a historical or legal basis.

It also sees it as a “red line.”

Notably, at least two senior Ethiopian military commanders made claims, over the past two weeks, over the port of Assab which is currently under Eritrean territory. They argue that Assab was an autonomous region when a referendum was organized for the secession of Eritrea.

They accused Prime Minister Meles Zenawi’s government over the “illegal handover of Ethiopia’s sea access.”  There seems to be a similar sentiment on the part of some politicians from Tigray including from some senior military commanders.

  1. Who you calling an Eritrean? My homeboy Yemane? He is a Black Italian. I have told you that more than a million times and you are not listening. What is new from distorted people like you. My other Black Italian homie Isu Wedi Afo had told you a million times that your so-called Ethiopia is a myth with a totally distorted history which makes you all Ethiopians a distorted people. You can’t even think and my Black Italian hommies have to do all thinking for you. If you are looking for a port as an outlet to sea, Antarctica is wide open for you. Boy, I hate you, especially those Oromummaas.
