Ethiopian Football Association Requests FIFA to investigate the matter and hold Egyptian Football Associations accountable

Toronto – Ethiopian Football Federation says Egyptian fans used laser pointers against Ethiopian goal keeper during the world cup qualifying match between Ethiopia and Egypt in Cairo on Friday.
The incident happened during the penalty kicks on the Ethiopian goal keeper. Egypt won the matter 2-0 after the referee awarded Egypt with two penalty kicks. The match was very intense. Abubeker Nura, Ethiopian goal keeper, saved many targeted strikes.
Ethiopia argues the use of the laser pointer “significantly disrupted their [Ethiopian players] concentration and performance, thereby compromising the fairness and integrity of the match.”
It also accused Egyptian fans of misconduct when the Ethiopian National Anthem was playing before the match. The Federation points out the behavior violates the FIFA regulation.
Bahiru Tilahun, CEO of Ethiopian Football Federation, requested FIFA to investigate both violations , and “implement corrective measures and sanctions where necessary to ensure the integrity of future matches.”
The CEO has requested FIFA to initiate a formal investigation into the qualifying match between the two nations.
Based on the letter the federation released, Egyptian fans demonstrated misconduct against Ethiopia even before the start of the match. The federation says the fans exhibited disrespect when the Ethiopian National Anthem was playing.
“We observed with deep concern that during the playing of the Ethiopian National Anthem, fans of the host nations disrupted the moment with whistles, jeers and other forms of audible disrespect,” it said. The Federation argues that this violates the FIFA rules and made a reference to Article 16, section 2 of the 2023 FIFA code.
The Ethiopian Football Federation is asking that FIFA take a measure to “educate host federations and their supporters on proper conduct especially during pre-match ceremonies such as the national anthem.”
Egypt and Ethiopia have been hostile nations. Much of it is related to the longest river in the world, the Nile (Abbay) river, over 85 percent of which originates from the Ethiopian highlands. The most active dispute and animosity was over the Grand Ethiopian National Dam (GERD) – which is said to be the largest hydro electric dam in Africa. It cost over $5 billion. Ethiopia has scheduled its inauguration for tomorrow.

First things first →First, Happy GERD Day! Congratulations Ethiopia(ns)! So, ONE for the GERD →1, 2, 3, Bottoms Up!
Ethio Soccer should never play any match in Egypt. Why didn’t Ethio Soccer ask to play the match in a third mutually-friendly country [as Egypt did last time]? Isn’t the safety of the National Soccer Team of concern?
Ethio Soccer knows that Egypt avoids playing in Ethiopia by concocting excuses and/or bribing officials. Egypt has never been Ethiopia’s friend and will never ever be. Every Ethiopian should get that thru his/her head.
Those demented fans were not only using laser pointer at the Ethiopian players they were also chanting racial slurs. I have been scouring through their newspapers some of those reporting were disgusted at the behavior of these KKK wannabes. One comment I read was that the fans were chanting ‘baeedis’ a shortened racial slur for ‘you niggers’. ‘Bid, bid, bid’ was heard among the crowd which reminds us what racist crowd was deep chanting ‘nig, nig, nig’ whenever that first black football player catches the ball way back 75 years ago. FIFA must look into this and teach those superpower wannabes a bitter lesson or two. What will be next for these bigots? Dropping deadly poisonous chemical canisters over Addis/Finfine? You remember they had done that on their own fellow Arabs in the then North Yemen during the years 1963-1967. Also, it must be known that Egypt(along with North Korea) is not a signatory of Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993.
