Ethiopian Government Mechanized Units Reportedly moving to Tigray ( Tigray Peace Force)

Borkena

Toronto – The Ethiopian Federal government is reportedly deploying troops to the Tigray region of Ethiopia as the political crisis in the region is deepening at times sparking military actions between factions.

Tigray Peace Force (TPF), a faction of armed groups that broke away from “Tigray Defense Force” in resistance to what it considered a forceful measure, shared a picture on its social media page purportedly showing a mechanized unit of Ethiopian Defense Force.

The move came as forces loyal to the Debretsion Gebremichael led faction of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) are taking what appears to be a forceful measure in a move that is said to restore TPLF’s power in the region.

The latest incident was in Mehoni, South Tigray, where Army 43 forces of the “Tigray Defense Force” reportedly opened fire on the people, wounding at least five civilians. Most of the victims were said to be youth groups organized to maintain stability in the region.

According to sources, as reported by Borkena, the army was on a mission to arrest Colonel Halefom Mehari, head of the Militia forces in Raya Azebo district, who reportedly parted way with the TDF forces loyal to Debretsion led TPLF.

Notable politicians in the region, like Grebru Asrat, have been criticizing the Federal government for what they call ‘failure to ensure law and order against the Debretsion forces.

Tadesse Worede, whom the Federal government appointed as Interim President in the region replacing Getachew Reda in April this year, is said to have collaborated with or been under the influence of the Pro-Debretsion forces.

Girmay Tsegay Deputy Head of Security for Tigray South zone who had a phone interview with Ethiopia Media Services on Wednesday painted a picture that the forceful measure Pro-Debretsion forces have been attempting in South Tigray has a recognition from Tadesse’s administration. Furthermore, he alleged that the forceful measures that TPLF is attempting in South Tigray could have the backing of Eritrea.

If the reported Federal government military deployment in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia escalates the tension probably leading to military conflict with the TPLF forces, there is a likelihood that it could turn out to be a major war involving other powers in the region including Eritrea.

Meanwhile, the conflict in the Amhara and Oromia regions of Ethiopia is still underway. Fano has recently been making claims of significant gains in many areas of the region.

  1. It is a false news. The government of Abiy Ahmed can not deploy its forces in Tigray. The TDF under Alula Aba Nega military operations has wiped out the Oromo dominated army and captured thousands. The rest left Tigray but TDF asdvanced further into the south until the Biden administration pressed its withdrawal. The Eritrean and Amhara forces played a role to save the government of Abiy Ahmed. If Ahmed makes another blunder, it will be the end of his rule but the TDF will respect the sovereignty of Oromia which is the gift of Tigray to the Oromo people. The significant reduction of the Amhara population in the capital of Oromia (Finfine) is as per the democratic demands of the Oromo people and the EPRDF had its own plan for it.
