Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Ethiopian Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration announced that it held discussions with the Russian Ministry of Economic Development regarding bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
In a statement released today, the Ministry said that Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Kassahun Gofe (PhD) had a web-based discussion this morning with Russia’s Minister of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, on issues related to Ethiopia’s World Trade Organization (WTO) membership negotiations and bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
During the discussion, Minister Kassahun Gofe expressed Ethiopia’s commitment to further facilitating the growing trade and economic relations between the two countries.
The statement added that Minister Kassahun requested that the recently completed bilateral market access agreement at the technical level, which is related to the WTO negotiations, be signed at the national level before the 6th Working Party meeting.
The statement also said that the Minister indicated his readiness to work in coordination with the relevant government institutions to enhance the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, Russia’s Minister of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, expressed his country’s commitment to further expanding the growing trade and economic cooperation between the two nations in various sectors, products, and services, according to the statement.
According to the statement, Minister Maxim Reshetnikov expressed his interest in cooperating on the recently signed bank-to-bank relations and in the electronic commerce, manufacturing, health, and telecommunications sectors.
The statement also added that he reaffirmed that Russia will continue to strengthen its comprehensive support for Ethiopia’s WTO accession process.
