Toronto – The Fano Forces continue to make claims of significant military gains against government forces.

They claimed they controlled Fendeka town in Jawi, Metekel.

According to Ethiopian Media Services (EMS), a fifteen hours long battle was fought before Fano forces managed to dislodge government forces only to withdraw from it after several hours. And this was said to be the second Fano control of the town in less than a week.

Fano Yohannes Getachew, public relation head of the Metekel 4th division of Fano Forces told EMS that they withdrew out of operational consideration and public safety concerns. He says, as often stated by Fano forces from other areas of the region,  the government forces would shell the city with heavy weaponry had the Fano Forces decided to remain in control of the city.

Furthermore, he stated that Fano could take control of the town “whenever it wants to.”

In terms of causality, Fano Yohanenes Getachew told EMS that 52 government forces were killed, and many others wounded. He added that government forces retreated without collecting the bodies of fallen soldiers. Yet, the government forces are said to have controlled the town again following Fano’s withdrawal hours after they took control of it.

The number of casualties on the part of Fano forces is unspecified.

From the public relation head of the division phone interview with EMS, they are within a close range of the town.

The Ethiopian government has not remarked about Fano’s claim at the time of this writing. The source indicated that the effort to reach out to government officials to get their remarks was unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, other local news sources have reported on Wednesday that intense fighting between Fano forces and government forces in many areas.

The most intense one was said to be in the Kobo area where the government forces lost a battle about three or so days ago.

In Shoa, three government soldiers reportedly deserted to Fano Forces with their arms.

Despite the Fano Forces managing to reverse what was said to be the last major government forces offensive, internal wrangle remains a challenge for the formation of a single and functional Fano organization.
